Job Description
The positions in this job family will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, they will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.ÂÂÂ
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
The D'Andrea lab investigates chromosome instability and susceptibility to cancer.ÂOur laboratory examines the molecular signaling pathways which regulate the DNA damage response in mammalian cells. Disruption of these pathways, by germline or somatic mutation, leads to genomic instability, cellular sensitivity to ionizing radiation, and defective cell cycle checkpoints and DNA repair. These pathways are often disrupted in cancer cells, accounting for the chromosome instability and increased mutation frequency in human tumors. The DâAndrea lab employs a wide range of novel technologies for the measurement of DNA damage response in cancer cell lines, including cytotoxicity measurements, and proteomic biomarker measurements.Â
The Research Technician will assist postdoctoral fellows/scientists in performing scientific research, of varying complexity. In general, they will assist in the set-up, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations, and calculating and recording results.
Â
Students interested in pursuing M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. training will benefit most from this laboratory experience. They will develop the ability to think critically and design careful and well-controlled experiments. Technicians will have the opportunity to be co-authors on manuscripts published in the laboratory.
