College/Department Information
Located conveniently in Augusta's downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.
Job Summary
Provides assistance to the Director of Nursing with directing the functions of licensed and certified employees who provide health care to the geriatric population of the nursing home. Maintains educational programs and staff development records for all departments at GWVNH. Maintains records and ensures compliance with certification of Nursing Assistants, renewing license of licensed Nurses, and Occupational Health and Wellness requirements for the Nursing department. Participates in various committees as assigned. Responsible for providing direction and supervision of the clinical practices that involve the nursing department.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Development and Implementation: Assist with the development and implementation of Nursing services objectives.
Licensing Compliance: Assist with monitoring and ensure compliance with all licensing organizations.
Staff Development: Responsible for maintaining staff development attendance and departmental records. Provides monthly calendars of scheduled in-services and events to all departments. Submits monthly and quarterly reports to Director of Nursing and assigned committees.
Department Development: Assist with selecting nursing department staff, completing employee appraisals, and resolving issues involving patients/families, and employee disciplinary actions.
Staff Support: Shares the responsibility for supporting RN staff on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis for coverage of the facility. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assumes the duties of the Director of Nursing.
Assist Director of Nursing: Assist the Director of Nursing in various aspects in management of the nursing department. Participates on committees as assigned. Coordinates clinical rotations for students with the Nurse Educator.
Continued training: Attends training programs at least annually to remain current on nursing practice for long-term care.
Other Duties: Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing with a minimum of two years of nursing experience to include one year of work experience in staff development and/or supervision.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing with a minimum of four years' nursing experience to include a minimum of two years of work experience in staff development and/or supervision. - Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Nurse and current American Heart Association BLS.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Preferred Experience
Five years of nursing experience with at least two years in the area of supervision and staff development. Experience in Nursing management preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to be detail-orientated
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Grade: B16
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation
