Job Summary
As part of a grant funded training program dedicated to job creation and revenue growth for veteran small business owners and entrepreneurs, the Utah Veteran Business Resource Center (VBRC) at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) seeks a qualified veteran or military-spouse business advisor to provide 1:1 business counseling, coaching, mentoring, and resource support to program participants, conduct outreach and recruitment to attract participants, and assist in trainings in Boots to Business related courses, assist in providing business counseling, coaching, and mentoring and resource support to program participants, and conduct outreach and recruitment to attract participants. Selected individual will also provide support to the VBRC mission and events/programs/workshops as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Advising and Client Support:

Meets with veteran entrepreneurs (clients) on an individual basis as needed to assist with developing a launch strategy or assistance with existing business obstacles, education, or resources.
Assists clients in utilizing advisors and other veteran resources and services appropriately.
Works with clients to understand, track and apply business metrics to support growth.
Performs business, market, and industry research to provide information to clients as appropriate.
Assists with training programs/classes/workshops to substitute teach as needed and coordinate follow up in advising sessions based on classroom feedback.
Helps clients apply VBRC training content to their businesses.
Assists the Manager/Director of the VBRC and/or leads planning sessions and mentoring with groups or individuals who participate in various programs.
Attends program events, conferences, and classes to support veteran entrepreneurs.
Manages advising schedule and approach.
Completes all training requirements and understands the cultural knowledge of working within the SLCC construct.
Participates in staff and Advisor Training with a particular focus on:
Advising veteran and military connected entrepreneurs on starting or growing a business.
Techniques for preparing the client to use the tools needed to build and grow a business.
Conducts individual meetings with veterans.
Understands the content and programs offered by the VBRC.
Community Building:
Networks and presents to business, community, and other leaders to enhance the local entrepreneurship ecosystem and to advance program recruitment.
Assists with and engages in veteran client and alumni program events as needed.
As part of outreach, attends functions, tradeshows, sponsored events on behalf of the VBRC and SLCC.
Works with clients, veteran service organizations and partner organizations to gather required data and maintain a strong network for referrals.
Assists other staff members and in-class activities to ensure smooth program delivery.
Attends required calls, meetings, and training sessions.
Completes data input related to client contact, support, research, and meetings into database to track and measure activity and progress in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to assist with events, programs, and promotes the VBRC in a positive and collaborative way with a focus on the clients we serve.
Committed to recruiting new applicants to the program by engaging in community events and program recruitment opportunities.
Working with veteran entrepreneurs in a facilitative and supportive manner to identify their business needs and provide appropriate assistance with respect to the entrepreneur’s needs.
Works in a collaborative and supportive manner within the veteran training programs and advises clients.
Leads appropriate practitioner-oriented expertise.
Ability to be personable and patient with clientele.
Guides clients through steps toward overcoming business challenges and obstacles.
Uses a model of community engagement to link veterans to other Business Support Services both veteran and non-veteran based.
Dedicated to positive client outcomes of business and job creation and revenue generation.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, concentration in business related area of small business ownership preferred.
Veteran or the U.S. Military with honorable discharge.
Three (3) to six (6) years direct experience in the following areas:
Demonstrated experience in small business ownership, or executive-level engagement in a small business.
Demonstrated experience in understanding functional areas of business operations, including small business finance.
Demonstrated ability to present to small or large groups and represent the organization as directed by the Manager/Director.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in business administration or related area.
Demonstrate experience as a business advisor, consultant, coach, or mentor.
Knowledge and understanding of veteran resources and programs.
Strong community connections and diverse business network.
Intimately familiar with military culture and tradition.
