Job Description

Position Purpose
The Financial Analyst manages daily budgetary and financial accounting tasks, oversees issues related to assigned departments and divisional funding sources, and ensures accurate financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, the Financial Analyst plays a key role in providing comprehensive financial insights, supporting decision-making, and maintaining compliance with financial policies.
Description
The Analyst responds to financial data inquiries, liaises with the Controller’s Office on capital reconciliations, advises on funding source usage, reviews expense reimbursements, manages commitment databases, and supports budget preparation and journal entries. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
4+ years of experience in financial reporting and analysis.
Proficiency with Oracle systems and financial data management software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Proven ability in budgeting, variance analysis, and financial interpretation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Experience with dashboards and automation tools for financial reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education finance or similar complex organizational environments.

Description
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Prepare and review detailed financial reports, offering insights to support the Assistant Director in strategic planning.
Investigate General Ledger (GL) variances and conduct preliminary analyses to identify discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
Perform monthly and quarterly reviews of departmental and divisional accounts, explaining variances between actuals and projections.
Prepare and review monthly and quarterly reconciliations for assigned accounts, promptly correcting discrepancies to maintain financial accuracy.
Assist with year-end analyses to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supporting a seamless fiscal close process.
Support the preparation and review of journal entries to ensure compliance with accounting standards and accurate financial reporting.
Develop and maintain financial models, dashboards, and trend analyses to provide ongoing visibility into institutional funding trends.
Collaborate with budget officers and operational teams to interpret financial results and recommend corrective actions or efficiency improvements.

Data Management & Reporting
Create reports to help faculty and Arts & Sciences leadership track expenditures against funding sources, provide clear financial insights and facilitate informed budgeting.
Automate reporting processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort, eliminating redundant reporting practices to streamline workflows.
Prepare customized reports for the Assistant Director, including reports on Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs), overtime, and temporary staffing to aid in operational planning.

Description
Support & Collaboration
Respond to policy and process inquiries from the Procurement team, providing accurate and timely information.
Collaborate with the Advancement Office to record and process gifts, ensuring proper documentation and tracking for financial accuracy.
Conduct mail merges for faculty award communications, ensuring accuracy and proper record-keeping for recognition processes.
Provide data and analytical support to leadership, aiding strategic decision-making across departments.
Work with other departments to deliver financial insights and support strategic initiatives, fostering a collaborative approach to financial planning.
Support end users and department staff by providing guidance and training on the effective use of financial dashboards, reports, and data tools.

Ensure strict compliance with local and federal financial regulations, maintaining current knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and standards.
Facilitate internal audits by providing necessary documentation and insights, ensuring thorough adherence to financial policies and procedures.
Identify potential financial risks proactively and implement effective strategies to manage and mitigate them, safeguarding organizational assets.
