Job Summary
The Simulation Operations Specialist serves as the primary operational lead for assigned simulation activities within the SPEAR Center. This role is responsible for the end-to-end planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of simulation events, ensuring a high-quality, consistent, and safe learning environment. Working under the direction of the Director of Operations and in collaboration with Senior Simulation Operations Specialists, this position provides hands-on leadership during daily operations, directs Simulation Assistants and Operations Technicians during assigned events, and ensures adherence to SPEAR standards and best practices. The Simulation Operations Specialist applies expertise in simulation workflows, equipment, and educational support to deliver effective and reliable simulation experiences while escalating system-level issues to the Simulation Technology Specialist as needed.
Responsibilities
SIMULATION EVENT PLANNING, COORDINATION, & STEWARDSHIP: Serves as the primary operational lead for assigned simulation events from initial planning through completion. Ensures required event documentation, timelines, and readiness milestones are met, including receipt and review of course materials, learner documentation, and operational requirements; identifies missing, late, or incomplete inputs and escalates risks to the Director of Operations to protect event quality and feasibility. Plans and coordinates event logistics, timelines, equipment needs, and room assignments. Collaborates with faculty, standardized patient teams, and staff to ensure readiness and alignment. Ensures all pre-event preparations are complete, including room setup, supplies, and equipment readiness. Maintains accountability for event execution, flow, timing, and overall learner experience.
SIMULATION EVENT EXECUTION & OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP: Leads the execution of assigned simulation events including setup, operation, and breakdown. Directs Simulation Assistants and Operations Technicians during assigned events. Serves as the primary operational contact for faculty, staff, and event participants. Manages real-time workflow, resolves operational issues, and ensures adherence to schedules. Provides learner, faculty, and staff orientation to the simulation environment when appropriate. Ensures a professional, safe, and realistic simulation environment is maintained.
SIMULATION ENVIRONMENT & OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: Ensures simulation rooms, equipment, and environments are prepared and maintained to meet operational standards. Coordinates room setup and reset in collaboration with Simulation Assistants and Operations Technicians. Maintains organization, cleanliness, and readiness of simulation and storage areas. Supports inventory awareness and appropriate use of consumables and equipment. Maintains accurate operational documentation and event records within approved scheduling, documentation, and simulation management systems, ensuring information is complete, traceable, and aligned with SPEAR standards.
SIMULATION EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY: Operates simulation manikins, task trainers, AV systems, and related equipment during events. Performs event-level troubleshooting for simulation, AV, and IT equipment. Prepares and programs simulators as required for assigned scenarios. Utilizes approved simulation management, scheduling, and documentation systems to support event planning, execution, and post event follow up. Supports tele-simulation and hybrid learning activities. Identifies and escalates significant, system-level, or recurring technical issues to the Simulation Technology Specialist and the Director of Operations.
EDUCATIONAL & STAKEHOLDER SUPPORT: Supports faculty and program stakeholders in delivering simulation-based education. Communicates operational expectations, constraints, and finalized setup details to faculty and stakeholders, ensuring shared understanding of event readiness, flow, and responsibilities. Assists with assessments, examinations, and training activities. Provides guidance on the appropriate use of simulation environments and equipment. Contributes to a positive, professional experience for learners, faculty, staff, and visitors.
OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENT, TEAM COLLABORATION, & PROFESSIONAL: Identifies operational challenges during events and proposes workflow improvements. Identifies documentation, communication, or workflow breakdowns that impact simulation readiness or consistency and contributes to process improvements in collaboration with senior staff. Implements improvements within assigned events and communicate trends to senior staff. Collaborates with the Director of Operations and Senior Simulation Operations Specialists to improve consistency and efficiency across activities. Demonstrates a team-first mindset by contributing to the success of colleagues and the broader SPEAR Center, utilizing downtime to support operational needs beyond primary assignments. Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and accountability in a dynamic academic environment. Earns and maintains certification through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least three years of experience in simulation, healthcare, technology, or teaching OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with at least five years of experience in simulation, healthcare, technology, or applicable area of a simulation setting.

KNOWLEDGE
Strong knowledge of simulation operations, workflows, and educational environments.
Proficiency with simulation technologies, AV systems, and basic IT support.
SKILLS

Ability to manage multiple events and competing priorities.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B9
Salary: $48,800/annually-$57,000/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
