Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant with clinical knowledge to support the clinical operation within the department.

The clinic hours are Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, but may require flexibility to work earlier or later depending on business need.

This position is an outpatient position located at the San Felipe Campus and offers free parking.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as rooming and taking vital signs.
  • Documents the primary complaint/reason for the visit.
  • Collects patient social history, enters/reconciles medications into patient's chart, and updates patient's pharmacy.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scanning patient medical records; obtaining outside labs/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, proccessing faxes, and completing forms/requisitions as needed during the visit.
  • Performs clinic procedures such as point of care influenza, Strep, pregnancy, and HemoglobinA1c test, urine dipstick, 12-Lead EKG, and ear irrigation.
  • Administers immunizations/medications (Intramuscular injections).
  • Provides nebulizer treatment.
  • Sets up Pap Smear tray.
  • Assists provider with wound care.
  • PPD placement.
  • Maintains refrigerator temperature log.
  • Stocks exam rooms with needed supplies and forms; Makes a list of clinic supplies, immunization, and medication needed before using the last stock.
  • Handles patient calls, refill requests, refill responses, MyChart refill requests, patient MyChart messages, result notes, staff messages, and letters.
  • Works with providers on extended clinic hours and assigns to cover clinic during lunchtime.
  • Transports patient to the Emergency Center when needed.Gives handover report to staff when leaving early for the day.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • No experience required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS). New employees who are not currently certified must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
