Job Description

Summary

We conduct lab and home-based studies in which children's sleep, activity, screen time, circadian rhythm and light exposure are assessed via accelerometry, mobile apps, saliva sampling procedures and other related technology. The research Coordinator I will assist our team and the scientific programmers with data related to assessment of children’s sleep, screen, and and phone use to examine how screen use impacts sleep, cognition, and weight status. As a member of this team, you will also be assisting with managing inventories of devices and the post-processing of data. This position requires a detail oriented individual with exceptional communication, teamwork, organizational and time management skills.

Available to work morning, afternoon, and evening shifts on research protocols, Friday through Sunday.

Job Duties

  • Assist with managing an inventory of embedded hardware systems and wearable devices, preparing devices for deployment in the field.
  • Post data collection, assist with downloading, and post-processing data according to specific requirements and project needs.
  • Help with remotely monitoring and troubleshooting embedded and wearable devices when deployed on-site for data collection.
  • Help maintain large complex database management systems of multi-modal human subjects data and software for further analysis including human labeling, data retrieval, data manipulation, backup, and recovery.
  • Assist with conducting data testing and quality control procedures and communicate results to the team.
  • Help provide basic instructions, when necessary to: undergraduates, graduates, post docs, faculty, staff and external users wanting to learn how to use the devices our team uses for research.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, documentation, organization, and safety of research participants.
  • Help set-up embedded hardware systems in the homes of research participants and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Conduct job duties in accordance with manual of procedures.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, management information systems, Kinesiology or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience in database administration.
  • Experience in Python programming and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with Linux platforms (Ubuntu).
  • Experience in computer vision algorithms/systems.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Requires effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Prior experience with computer spreadsheets and database management.
  • Willing to travel to participants' homes for data collection.
  • Flexibility to work late evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and front-end database applications (REDCap, OnCore).
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, takes initiative, and meets deadlines assigned by the Manager and/or Principal Investigator (PI).

Maintains clear communication with participants and other team members.

Working Conditions and Occupational Risks:
Work is conducted in busy patient clinics, hospitals, office areas, participants' homes, and/or laboratories. There is potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (blood and/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, environmental allergens (in participants' homes), and physical hazards. Interaction with patients and other employees is required.

Physical Requirements:
Will need to transport data collection supplies to participants' homes. This involves lifting and carrying equipment weighing less than 50 lbs and climbing stairs as needed.
