The MFA in Dance Program is looking for an adjunct faculty member to teach Dance 541, Dance Production Management, in fall 2026. The class meets on Saturdays from 11am to 2pm from September 12 to December 19 on zoom, as well as on Monday, December 7 and December 14 from 4pm to 7pm.
The MFA in Dance educates the whole dance artist. Through the lens of a liberal arts curriculum, the program's values are shaped by the quest for truth, authenticity and community building in a holistic model that integrates mind, body and spirit. The MFA in Dance offers two unique MFA degrees in dance: Creative Practice and Design & Production. Creative Practice has a low-residency option and the Design & Production MFA is the only one in the country specifically for dance.
Course description: Dance Production Management is an in-depth exploration of production management for dance, investigating management techniques including: communication skills, team building, assertiveness, goal setting, time management, stress management and an overview of production organization. This course will investigate all aspects of the production process including: creative problem solving, scheduling, planning, negotiating techniques, contracts and hiring, budgeting, venue selection, touring, and more. Students will consider the role of the production manager in the field of dance including an examination of how that role varies depending on company style and structure.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have and MA, MFA or other terminal degree in the appropriate field. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered teaching in the liberal arts tradition, and show evidence of teaching effectiveness among graduate students. Prior teaching experience and/or professional experience is preferred in Production Management.
Instructor must be available to teach the course online during fall 2026 on Saturdays from 11am-2pm.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $7,447 - $10,308 depending on qualifications.
The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
