Job Summary/Basic Function
The College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for an Academic Advisor/Advanced Academic Advisor position in the following departments: Department of Aerospace, School of Agriculture, Department of Chemistry and Pre-Professional Health Sciences, Department of Computational and Data Science, and the School of Concrete and Construction Management. The Academic Advisor will collaborate with students to co-create educational plans in ways that are consistent with their aspirations, interests, strengths, and values--preparing them for a life of learning in a diverse and global society. MTSU Academic Advising fosters a collaborative, holistic, and inclusive student-centered relationship that promotes academic and personal growth so students can thrive in the University community. Through innovative, transformative, and informed practice, Academic Advisors empower students to think critically and take ownership of their journey and success. Academic Advisors work with traditional, transfer, undeclared, and pre-professional health students, ensuring they stay on track for graduation through constant engagement and monitoring. The Academic Advisor role is geared toward supporting student success, providing both academic and career advising while maintaining high standards of professionalism and collaboration within their respective college. CBAS has an established Advising Center with high professional standards and a reputation for excellence. The best qualified candidate is student-centered, communicates clearly and effectively, is a team player, advocates for STEM, and is capable of working effectively with staff and faculty to serve the diverse needs of students.

The Advanced Academic Advisor builds upon the foundational role of the Academic Advisor, offering deeper expertise in academic planning, student engagement, and retention strategies. This position focuses on providing enhanced advising services to specialized student populations, including transfer students, at-risk students, and those in specific academic disciplines. The Advanced Advisor works closely with faculty and administrative staff to ensure that students meet academic goals and are on track for graduation. The role also includes involvement in professional development and special projects that contribute to the overall success of the advising center. Perform related tasks and special projects as assigned. Note: a flexible work schedule is required to accommodate student requests for advising after traditional work hours.

Required Education
Advisor: Master’s degree (earned by start date). A Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of directly relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.

Advanced Advisor: Master's degree (earned by start date) in a related field is required.

Required Related Experience
Advisor: No experience required with a Master's degree.

Advanced Advisor: Minimum of two years of experience in the role of Academic Advisor.
