Position DescriptionThe School of Music at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher/performer to serve as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Trumpet. Duties begin August 2027.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trumpet, trumpet literature and pedagogy courses, coach chamber and trumpet ensembles, and other topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and the needs of the School of Music.
Maintain a record of scholarly/creative activity and make substantive professional contributions to the field of trumpet performance and pedagogy.
Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities.
Recruit and retain a full studio of undergraduate and graduate trumpet students.
Fulfill other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in trumpet performance or related field (must be completed by August 15, 2027), or equivalent professional experience.
Evidence of excellence in trumpet teaching at the professional or collegiate level.
Demonstrated record of achievement in scholarly/creative activities and potential for further professional growth.
· Ability to perform in a variety of musical styles and genres.
Potential for success in student recruitment.
Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
University teaching experience.
National/international stature as a trumpet player.
Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
